State crime lab's problems have put murder cases on hold

The forensic lab lost its certification from the American Society of Crime Lab Directors in August. The FBI also audited the lab and stopped allowing it to submit DNA information to a national databank. State officials say the situation is resolved, but there is a backlog of cases that may last years.

Murder victim's aunt plans anti-crime march

The violence on the south side of Tift County has led the aunt of 31-year-old David Tyrone Barnes, who was murdered Jan. 7 in Tifton, to putting her “feet” down, and she’s asking that the community do the same by participating in the inaugural “Valentine’s Day March against Violence” at noon Feb. 14.
